The Logie-nominated star had previously announced the news to other actors on set, as she will be temporarily leaving the show to begin another national tour of the play "Grandparents Club."
McGranger said in a statement: "It's a bittersweet thing to be ending the best and longest journey of my life, working for nearly 33 years in a dream role, working every day with people I love, respect and consider family." She added that she is very grateful to the crew and staff for everything they have done for Irene over the past three decades, expressing her deep appreciation for their support.
As for how the character of Irene will leave the show, it is currently unknown, leaving fans speculating about her exit storyline. Irene has overcome many tribulations, including breast cancer, alcoholism, and plane crashes, showcasing her resilience.
