The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has been urged to expand its anti-corruption advocacy efforts through social media to better engage Fijian youth and the public. This initiative aims to raise anti-corruption awareness and leverage the widespread influence of social media.
A comprehensive review report by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Fijian Parliament on FICAC's 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 annual reports revealed that, despite FICAC producing animated educational content, its reach remained limited. The committee believes that FICAC needs to further expand its outreach channels to reach a broader audience.
The committee recommended integrating anti-corruption information into school curricula and actively promoting it on digital platforms. The report emphasized that, given the critical role social media plays in shaping public perception, it is essential to balance educational content with engaging formats to effectively disseminate anti-corruption awareness.
By integrating anti-corruption information into school education and leveraging the interactivity of social media, FICAC is expected to increase public awareness and concern about corruption issues, thereby fostering a more transparent and honest social environment.
