Abstract: VP Vance is visiting Greenland with his wife, citing global security concerns. The trip aims to reinforce Greenland's safety amid interest from Russia & China.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that he will be visiting Greenland with his wife. In an online video, he hinted that the trip is related to global security.

Vance said in a video shared on Tuesday, "We're going to go check things out." He added, "On behalf of President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the safety of the people of Greenland, because we think it's essential to protecting the safety of the entire world."

Greenland has broader strategic value as a nautical gateway to the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans, close to North America. China and Russia are also seeking access to its waterways and nearby natural resources. Previously, former U.S. President Donald Trump proposed that the U.S. should control this autonomous, mineral-rich Danish ally territory in some form, a move that angered most of Europe.

Usha Vance's office stated on Sunday that she will depart for Greenland on Thursday and return on Saturday. Initially, Mrs. Vance and one of her three children planned to visit historical sites and learn about Greenland's culture, but her husband's involvement has shifted the focus of the trip back to national security. Vice President Vance is scheduled to visit Greenland on Friday, saying he didn't want his wife to "have all the fun to herself," and he also plans to visit a Space Force outpost on Greenland's northwest coast. Vance stated that other countries also pose a threat to Greenland, as well as the United States and Canada.

Vance stated that leaders in Denmark and North America have "long neglected" Greenland. During Trump's first term, he proposed the idea of buying the world's largest island, but Denmark (a NATO ally) insisted that Greenland was not for sale. The people of Greenland also firmly rejected Trump's plan. Usha Vance and a U.S. delegation were originally scheduled to visit Greenland's national dog sled race, Avannaata Qimussersua, which will include approximately 37 mushers and 444 dogs.

Reports indicate that after returning to the White House, Trump has again shown a desire for territorial expansion, including seeking to incorporate Canada into the U.S. as the 51st state and restoring control over the Panama Canal. He has also hinted that U.S. interests may take over land in the war-torn Gaza Strip and transform it from Israeli hands into a luxury outpost.
