The Metropolitan Police in London has announced the discovery of the body of a newborn infant in West London. Police are conducting an urgent investigation to locate the baby's mother and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
Police received a report at 12:46 GMT on Tuesday that the body of a baby was found in a bag outside All Saints Church in Portobello, Powis Gardens, Notting Hill. The London Ambulance Service attended the scene, and the baby was pronounced dead at the location.
Police stated that the baby's gender and exact age are currently undetermined. Superintendent Owain Richards said this is an "extremely sad and distressing incident," and police are working to establish the full facts. He emphasized that the police's "absolute priority" is to find the baby's mother, as they believe she may have just given birth and could be in need of urgent medical attention.
Superintendent Richards appealed: "If you are the baby's mother, and you are reading this, please come forward and contact police or a medical professional. You must be feeling incredibly frightened, but please let us help you – we are really concerned about you, and it is vitally important that you get medical assistance and support."
