Abstract: Sam Kerr, Australian soccer star, faces UK charges for racially aggravated harassment of a police officer. Trial set for Feb 2025. Kerr, also injured, expects a child.

Australian women's soccer star Sam Kerr appeared in a London court this morning, charged with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer. Kerr, captain of the Australian national team and a forward for Chelsea, is one of the world's top female soccer players and Australia's all-time leading scorer.

The 31-year-old Kerr appeared at Kingston Crown Court, accused of violating the UK's Public Order Act, causing harassment, alarm or distress to a police officer in an incident that occurred on January 30, 2023, in Twickenham, southwest London. It is alleged that Kerr racially abused the officer following an incident involving a taxi driver.

The charges against Kerr were not formally brought until 2024. She denied all charges last March. Kerr's trial is scheduled for February 3. The soccer star was forced to miss the Olympics last year due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Kerr and her partner, American soccer player and West Ham United player Kristie Mewis, are expecting their child this year. This news comes from the Associated Press.
