On Tuesday, Israeli forces raided multiple areas of the occupied West Bank, resulting in at least two deaths and numerous arrests. This raid is part of an ongoing escalation of Israeli operations in Palestinian territories, which have caused the deaths of dozens of Palestinians since the beginning of this year.
According to news outlet Arab48, dozens of homes across the West Bank were raided, and numerous Palestinians, including children, were arrested. In military operations in Jenin and Tulkarm, Israeli soldiers demolished homes, buildings, shops, and infrastructure, leading to the displacement of Palestinians. Refugee camps in these two cities, which are places where Palestinians forced to leave other areas seek refuge, have also been targeted by Israeli forces.
Local reports indicate that in the past 24 hours, two Palestinians were killed in the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarm, and at least four others were injured in the Nur Shams camp east of the city. The two deceased were identified as Ihab Abu Atiya, 23, a commander of the Qassam Brigade in the Tulkarm camp, and Ramez Dumairi, 24. Journalists and reporters attempting to cover these events were also targeted with stun grenades and artillery fire, resulting in Palestinian journalist Nagham Zayyat being injured by shrapnel. Another journalist on the scene, Suhaib Abu Diak, said that live ammunition was fired at a news crew in the eastern community of Tulkarm.
Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli bulldozers caused widespread damage to infrastructure in Tulkarm, uprooting trees and damaging roads, including one leading to the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital. This medical facility has been under Israeli siege, disrupting the work of ambulance drivers and medical staff inside the building.
Meanwhile, in Jenin, Israeli military operations have continued for eight days, resulting in 16 deaths and numerous injuries. According to Wafa news agency, at least 100 homes have been destroyed during the ongoing Israeli attacks, leading to the displacement of many families. A local journalist said that Israeli forces continue to arrive in Palestinian cities with bulldozers. A group of UN special rapporteurs and independent experts warned on Monday that Israeli attacks on the occupied West Bank will exacerbate Palestinian suffering and violence. The experts stated, "We are appalled by the escalation of deadly violence engulfing Jenin and other areas of the West Bank." They also noted that "the Israeli crackdown appears to have no end in sight."
The experts added, "The Israeli government must instruct its military and security forces to immediately cease any excessive use of force, exercise restraint, and withdraw its forces from the occupied West Bank, in accordance with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) order of July 2024."
