A cruise ship on a 14-day round trip to New Zealand from Sydney encountered severe sea conditions, resulting in injuries to passengers and crew on board. At the time of the incident, the cruise ship was sailing near Milford Sound and was hit by strong winds due to a change of course.
Inside the kitchen of the cruise ship "Crown Princess," videos showed the ship listing violently, with staff running around to avoid danger. Kitchen staff had to prepare for the next even larger tilt, while passengers in the buffet and dining rooms clung to anything they could grab.
One passenger described, "Tables and chairs were sliding around the room, and a girl slid towards the pool along with her chair." Pots and pans were flying around in the kitchen, and food trays were collapsing. The water in the ship's pool overflowed onto the deck. Another passenger said, "I was walking when suddenly the ship tilted, and I had to hold on tight!"
The ship's gift shop was also a mess, with perfumes and skincare products falling from the shelves, glass display cases falling apart, and designer bags scattered on the floor. Princess Cruises stated that the crew took swift action to rectify the situation and that the safety of the ship was never compromised at any time.
