Abstract: Haifa stabbing: 1 dead, 4 injured at a station. Suspect, an Israeli citizen, subdued. Motive unclear, under investigation.

According to official sources, a stabbing attack occurred in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The incident took place on Monday at a bus and train station. This attack has heightened security concerns in the region.

Israeli police stated that a security guard and a civilian at the scene "subdued" the suspected attacker. The Israeli Red Star of David emergency service announced that a man around 70 years old was pronounced dead at the scene, and they are providing medical assistance and evacuation for the four injured. The rapid response of the security personnel helped to prevent further casualties.

The emergency service added that a man and a woman, both around 30 years old, and a 15-year-old boy sustained serious injuries in the attack. Police have identified the attacker as an Israeli citizen from a nearby Arab Druze town who returned from abroad in May, and the attack is currently under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack.

Al Jazeera's correspondent in Amman, Jordan, Hamdah Salhut, reported that the deceased was a Palestinian citizen residing in a village in northern Israel. "Members of the Druze community have condemned the attack," Salhut said, adding that the motive for the attack is "not yet clear." Meanwhile, the 15-year-old boy injured in the attack is reportedly in "very serious condition" in the intensive care unit of a hospital near Haifa. The community is in mourning after this tragic event.

Salhut stated, "There have been politicians who have come out publicly and said that this is a direct response to what is being led by Benjamin Netanyahu." "Bear in mind that members of the far-right government have also called for arming more Israeli settlers and citizens in response to increased attacks." Images posted on social media showed several paramedics attending to the injured, who were lying on the ground, with several ambulances nearby. The attack comes as negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian organization Hamas regarding a ceasefire in Gaza have stalled after the first phase ended over the weekend. On Sunday, Israel blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza due to disagreements with Hamas over extending the ceasefire agreement.
