A senior lawyer appointed by the Reform UK party is conducting an independent investigation into allegations against MP Rupert Lowe and his team. This lawyer has denied Lowe's claims about comments she allegedly made, further complicating the matter.
Rupert Lowe, the MP for Great Yarmouth, has been suspended by Reform UK and referred to the police following allegations of threatening the party chairman. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are assessing an allegation of "verbal threat." Additionally, allegations of bullying within Lowe's office are being investigated by the lawyer hired by the party.
Lowe strongly denies all allegations, claiming "there is no credible evidence against me," and stating he is "the victim of a political assassination because I dared to question Nigel Farage." Reform UK has withdrawn the party whip from Lowe, meaning he now sits as an independent MP.
The lawyer, a King's Counsel (KC) whose identity has been verified by the BBC but not publicly named by the party, stated: "I have seen statements made by Mr Lowe MP which attribute to me comments describing my reaction to the handling by the Party of allegations made against Mr Lowe MP and his constituency manager. I find myself in the unfortunate and regrettable position of having to issue this statement to set the record straight."
The lawyer added: "I have never expressed ‘dismay’ or ‘shock’ at the process. Nor have I ever said that ‘there is no credible evidence against [Mr Lowe]’, let alone said it ‘repeatedly’." Lowe maintains that the lawyer expressed concerns to him about the investigation process and a lack of credible evidence against him. He accuses Reform UK of spreading "outright lies," claiming he has not cooperated with the investigation, and states he will be taking legal action.
Lowe continued by saying he has had lengthy phone and message conversations with the lawyer and considers her a charming and helpful lady, trying to do her job in a very difficult situation set up for her by Reform UK. He emphasized that he dared to question Nigel Farage and is therefore a target of political assassination, and he will not allow his reputation to be tarnished.
