Abstract: BBC Media Action & British High Commission donated equipment to Honiara's Dreamcast Theatre on March 5, 2025. The equipment will enhance theatre’s creative production.

On March 5, 2025, BBC Media Action, in partnership with the British High Commission, formally handed over essential equipment to Dreamcast Theatre in Honiara. The event, held at Dreamcast Theatre, marked a significant milestone in supporting the development of media, arts, and storytelling in the Solomon Islands.

Dreamcast Theatre was established in response to civil unrest in the Solomon Islands, initially as a community-driven drama group aimed at promoting peace through theatrical performances. Over time, the group has evolved into a vibrant organization supporting local creative talent. Dreamcast Theatre provides artists with a creative space where they can collaborate, develop their skills, and create meaningful works of art, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Since its formal registration as a social enterprise in 2016, Dreamcast has grown into a family of musicians, dancers, photographers, actors, and filmmakers. The theatre has expanded its creative output into film, photography, music, and dance, while continuing to produce films for non-governmental organizations, businesses, and government agencies.

Georgina Kekea, BBC Media Action Solomon Islands Coordinator, stated, "This moment is not just about a formal handover, but a recognition of the dedication, persistence, and teamwork that has brought us to where we are today. We thank those who have contributed to this, even if they are no longer in the country."

Neil Nuia, Creative Director of Dreamcast Theatre, also expressed his gratitude for the timely support provided. "We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation from the British High Commission and BBC Media Action. This equipment will greatly enhance our capabilities in the production field, enabling us to create more impactful and meaningful content for our community and beyond."

The equipment handed over by the British High Commission included the HS 1300 Mobile Broadcasting System and the ITC 300 Intercom System. These audio and lighting systems will significantly enhance Dreamcast Theatre's creative production and media expression capabilities. This equipment will enable the theatre to scale up its operations and further fulfill its commitment to nurturing local talent.

His Excellency Paul Turner, British High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, shared his excitement about the continued partnership with Dreamcast Theatre. He highlighted the vibrant media and arts scene in Honiara and expressed anticipation for the new productions that the equipment would enable. "We are proud to support Dreamcast Theatre's creative journey, and we look forward to seeing how this equipment will contribute to the future of media and arts in Honiara," said H.E. Turner.

This collaboration between BBC Media Action, the British High Commission, and Dreamcast Theatre marks a significant step in empowering local talent and expanding the creative horizons of the Solomon Islands. With the support of this new equipment, Dreamcast Theatre will further enhance its impact on the media and arts landscape, inspiring a new generation of storytellers and creators.
