Abstract: Piastri took his first F1 pole at the Chinese GP. Hamilton won the sprint race; Piastri finished 2nd. Russell was 2nd, Norris 3rd in qualifying.

Australian driver Oscar Piastri secured his first-ever Formula One pole position at the Chinese Grand Prix with a stellar performance. He topped the qualifying session for Sunday's main race with a fastest lap of 1 minute, 30.641 seconds, demonstrating formidable competitiveness and skill.

Mercedes' George Russell finished second, just 0.082 seconds behind Piastri, while Piastri's teammate Lando Norris was 0.152 seconds back, placing third. Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five, indicating an exceptionally tight competition at the Shanghai circuit.

Just hours earlier, Hamilton secured his first victory as a Ferrari driver, winning Saturday afternoon's sprint race. The seven-time world champion, after a lackluster debut weekend in Melbourne, successfully converted his Friday sprint qualifying pole into a brilliant win. Piastri overtook Red Bull's Max Verstappen late in the race to ultimately secure a podium finish.

"It's great to be here, and I feel more adapted to the car than I did in Melbourne. I really didn't feel comfortable in Melbourne," Hamilton stated. "I know the team is eager for victories, and this means a lot to them. Rome wasn't built in a day, so we're taking it one step at a time."

For Piastri, securing second place was a great rebound after he retired from contention in last Sunday's Australian Grand Prix due to a mistake. "Second place is a decent result, and we learned a lot," the Australian driver said. "The way I achieved this result is encouraging. We didn't have enough pace to overtake the leading Lewis, but we have some good ideas for later and tomorrow."
