Solomon Islands artist Chris Kamuana Roroiema shared an exciting moment with his family when he received a call from Jacob Macquire and Michael Zhou of Nesia Daily. During the call, he was informed that he had won the 2024 Pacific Break competition, a piece of news that changed the course of his life.
Chris's winning entry, "Nalatana Manu"—meaning "the cry of the bird"—holds deep personal significance. It is his first recorded original song, and he dedicated it to his late father, who was a member of the Makai Sirihani band.
In a moving reflection, Chris shared that he and his father listened to "Nalatana Manu" together in the hospital as his father was nearing his passing. "I believe this song…it's a connection between me and him," Chris said, "He knew that this song would one day be great…would be a hit."
"Nalatana Manu" not only resonated with Chris's family but also touched the judges and audience of the Pacific Break competition, capturing the spirit of the competition and moving people across the region. Nesia Daily congratulates Chris Kamuana Roroiema and all the finalists, and also thanks everyone involved in the 2024 Pacific Break competition.
