Abstract: Fiji Met warns of heavy rain this weekend due to a low-pressure trough. Northern, eastern, and interior areas will be most affected. Showers & thunderstorms expected.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning for more rain this week. Weather forecaster Anjali Singh stated that a low-pressure trough is approaching the Fiji group from the southwest and will affect the area this weekend. This will bring a new round of rainfall to Fiji.

Mr. Singh said, "We expect most of the rain to be concentrated in the northern division, the eastern division, and the interior of Viti Levu." He also added, "For the western division, it will be cloudy in the morning, but thunderstorms and showers are expected in the afternoon." Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the central parts of Viti Levu and the eastern division of Fiji over the weekend, with the possibility of localized heavy rain, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas.

Ms. Singh said that the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu and the central division should expect showers this weekend. "Therefore, the rainfall will be more intense and severe over the weekend, and more rain is expected." She also noted that easterly winds of up to 15 to 20 knots are expected in the maritime areas, with poor visibility. This is because the prevailing winds are currently northeasterly, but from tomorrow, easterly winds are expected to start picking up.

"The environment is currently very humid, with dew points and temperatures reaching 26 degrees and above, so warm and humid weather is expected," Ms. Singh said. The rest of Fiji will be cloudy, with thunderstorms expected in the afternoon or evening. Residents should closely monitor weather forecasts and take precautions.
