Police have confirmed that the woman shot dead outside a pub in Kent on Valentine's Day was Lisa Smith, 43, from Slough. Following the incident, tributes to Ms. Smith have been left at the scene of the fatal shooting outside the "Three Horseshoes" pub in the village of Knockholt.
Flowers and balloons, including one that read "Good Mum," accompanied messages such as "Rest in Peace" and "Goodnight, beautiful lady." These tributes convey people's sorrow and remembrance of the deceased.
Police stated that they discovered a vehicle containing a firearm on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, which crosses the River Thames near Dartford. Detectives are investigating the possibility that a suspect may have entered the water. Police said that operators received reports that someone was "on the wrong side of the railings of the Dartford Bridge" on Friday.
Kent Police stated that officers are continuing to search areas of the River Thames, focusing on locating a suspect from the water. Police also stated that they believe the suspect and victim knew each other. Police have had no previous contact with the victim or suspect, and it is currently unclear whether the firearm was legally owned.
The Reverend Tim Edwards, the vicar of St. Katharine's Church in Knockholt, told BBC Radio Kent how he learned of the shooting. "I received a text from one of the churchwardens," he said, "and my first reaction was 'no, it must be a mistake, it doesn't make sense.'" He added, "That feeling has been replicated as I've talked to people."
He added, "There's a sense of shock, which is the word I've used with everybody I've talked to. It feels unreal, this sort of thing doesn't happen. This is the sort of thing you see on the television, not the sort of thing you see here in your own village." He also added that the community is "doing what village communities do," which is supporting each other, "pulling together, looking after each other."
Knockholt parish councillor Steve Mayne previously said that he [heard a commotion] outside the pub on Friday evening. He said: "We were having a Valentine's dinner and suddenly we heard a huge commotion outside the car park. We were told someone had been shot so we had to leave." Local resident Dorothy Huang added: "I heard about three to four loud bangs outside and a woman screaming." The "Three Horseshoes" pub is located approximately five miles (8 km) northwest of Sevenoaks.
