PM Napat tells public servants: Perform or be removed

Vanuatu's Prime Minister, Joseth Napat, has issued a stern warning to all public servants, urging them to diligently fulfill their duties or face dismissal. This move is aimed at improving government efficiency and ensuring that the public service sector better serves the people.

Prime Minister Napat made it clear that the government will strictly monitor the work performance of public servants. For employees who fail to meet the standards, the government will take necessary measures, including possible severance compensation. He emphasized that the government is committed to addressing issues such as bureaucracy, delays, and absenteeism within the public service sector, and explicitly stated that inefficiency will no longer be tolerated.

As the head of the public service sector, Prime Minister Napat has issued several directives aimed at improving efficiency. One important measure is the elimination of lunch breaks for public sector employees. He has instructed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to ensure that all public servants remain in the office during lunch hours, marking a significant shift in operational standards. Furthermore, he has banned frequent government retreats, deeming them an excuse for employee absenteeism.

Prime Minister Napat emphasized the need for the government to establish a performance-based system, stating that even his own position needs to be subject to performance evaluation. "If I don't perform, I am prepared to resign," he said, extending this principle to the entire public service sector. He apologized to the people of Vanuatu and assured them that the government will strive to improve efficiency in order to meet the nation's expectations.
