Abstract: Pikinini Bar reopened after the earthquake, supporting local farmers by purchasing fruits. Road reopening boosts access & tourism. Owner cites resilience.

Pikinini Bar, a well-known local juice bar, has reopened today after being closed for two months following the devastating earthquake on December 17, 2024. The juice bar is renowned for its fresh, organic, and healthy juice beverages, attracting health-conscious customers.

Milroy Cainton, the owner of the juice bar, is very excited about today's reopening. He stated that the reopening of Pikinini Bar, Waterfall Kava Bar, and the reopening of the road from Moorings to Fung Kuei demonstrate the resilience of the people of Vanuatu in the face of natural disasters, showcasing their ability to rebuild.

Mr. Cainton mentioned that Pikinini Bar has invested millions of Vatu in local farmers across the country to purchase fruits such as watermelons, pineapples, bananas, and lemons to make its famous local juices. With the reopening of the juice bar, farmers will have a place to sell their produce, thus supporting local agriculture.

"By investing millions of Vatu in purchasing fresh produce from local farmers, Pikinini Bar is not only developing its juice products but also helping to strengthen the local economy," Mr. Cainton said. He also added that Pikinini Bar's design concept aims to accommodate parents who enjoy drinking kava by allowing them to bring their children to Waterfall Kava Bar in the evening. While parents enjoy kava, children can enjoy healthy and fresh Vanuatu tropical fruits.

The government's approval to reopen Kumul Highway Street from Moorings to Fung Kuei is a major step forward for the local community and businesses like Pikinini Bar. With the opening of the road, the public will have easier access to fresh juices and the beautiful natural environment of the area, boosting tourism.

Mr. Cainton said he is pleased to see the government and businesses working together to rebuild the area, making it more vibrant and convenient for local residents and tourists alike. This reopening comes after the demolition of two buildings damaged in the earthquake – La Casa D’Andrea e Luciano and Chantillys on the Bay, paving the way for new development.

The owner of Pikinini Bar is creating a positive ripple effect in the community. By providing employment opportunities for his own staff, as well as Waterfall Kava Bar and its tenants, Mr. Cainton is contributing to employment and economic recovery. This is a great example of how a business can uplift an entire community, from the farmers who supply fresh produce to the local workers who find stable jobs, fostering growth.

Pikinini Bar is known for its smoothies, papaya, banana, apple, coconut juice, carrot, mint, lime, nutritional juices, and ice cream, offering a wide variety of refreshing and healthy options.
