Jurrien Timber stated that if Arsenal can overcome Eindhoven in the Champions League Round of 16, they can "change the situation of this season." He emphasized the team's ambition in the Champions League and the importance of this match.
Currently, several key attacking players in the Arsenal squad are suffering from injuries, including Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, who have been confirmed to be out for the season, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are also absent due to hamstring injuries. The team has failed to score in its last two matches and trails Premier League leaders Liverpool by 13 points.
Despite this, Arsenal performed well in the Champions League group stage, finishing third with 19 points and conceding only 3 goals. Ahead of Tuesday's first-leg match against Eindhoven, Dutch defender Timber said: "I think the motivation is there, and it's an amazing league. I think we also performed very well in the group stage, and we have a great team."
"I think tomorrow's game is a great opportunity to change the situation and win," Timber added. He has made 36 appearances for Arsenal this season, while last season, he only played twice in the Premier League after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the first game. Timber believes the team doesn't need to do anything complicated to regain a good feeling.
Timber said: "I think our team has so much strength, of course we have a lot of injuries, especially in the forward line, but it's a beautiful challenge for us to get our forward players - or anyone - to score, and hopefully we can show that." He added: "We have to score tomorrow, we have to win, in the Champions League you only have two games, so you don't get a second chance. So we have to go all out in this game."
Arsenal's recent performances have been criticized in the absence of preferred strikers, but Timber remains excited about the challenge against Eindhoven. He said: "I don't think it's a negative thing, but we've been through a lot - especially in the last few weeks." Timber concluded: "But as I said, I think it's a challenge for us, and we just need to embrace it. Tomorrow's game is a great opportunity to show that - we will definitely show that tomorrow."
