Abstract: Draper lost in Miami to Mensik after Indian Wells win. Crowd noise disrupted play. Fearnley lost to Zverev but will be UK #2. Wong upset Shelton.

British number one Jack Draper suffered a straight-sets defeat to Jakub Mensik at the Miami Open, marking his first match since winning the Indian Wells Masters title. The 23-year-old currently holds a career-high ranking of world number seven, making this loss a significant setback in his momentum.

Draper lost to the Czech opponent 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (7-3) in the second round. Draper started well, breaking Mensik in the first game, but the 19-year-old leveled the score at 3-3 and took control from there, demonstrating resilience and composure under pressure.

World number 54 Mensik fired 21 aces, including four in the first-set tie-break. The second set featured some angry scenes as the announcement was made that the match between Brazilian Joao Fonseca and Frenchman Ugo Humbert, scheduled to follow, was being moved to the main court, disrupting the flow of the competition.

Brazilian fans had been waiting in the stands for several hours and booed as they left their seats to head to another court, where Fonseca, who they were supporting, defeated Humbert 6-4 and 6-3. Draper was leading 4-3 at the time and tried to restart the match, but requested the umpire to pause play due to the booing, indicating the impact of the crowd's reaction on the game.

When play eventually resumed, the set remained on serve, forcing another tie-break, which Mensik won, marking his third appearance in the third round of an ATP1000 Masters event in his career. Britain's number three, Jacob Fearnley, 23, also suffered a straight-sets defeat, a heavy loss to top seed Alexander Zverev.

The German player, who also beat the Scot in straight sets at the Australian Open, wrapped up the match in just 1 hour and 14 minutes with a score of 6-2 and 6-4. Despite the loss, Fearnley will surpass Cameron Norrie to become Britain's number two player, behind Draper, when the ATP rankings are updated after the Miami Open, showcasing his progress in the sport.

In other matches, Hong Kong's 20-year-old Coleman Wong defeated American world number 14 Ben Shelton 7-6 (7-3), 2-6 and 7-6 (7-5), securing his first top-20 victory of his career, a significant milestone. American third seed Taylor Fritz eased past Italian Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (7-2) and 6-3 to advance to the next round, displaying a dominant performance.
