The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) of Fiji has received court orders to disconnect water and electricity services to 35 tenants who have failed to clear their rental arrears.
TLTB Chief Executive Officer Mr. Solomone Nata stated that as of February 28, 2025, TLTB currently has 248 cases pending in court, with an additional 163 cases being prepared for summons.
Mr. Nata added, "Furthermore, eight tenants have already received eviction orders issued by the court." He also stated that TLTB has intensified its efforts to combat rental arrears and is communicating with tenants who have opted for structured installment payment plans to assist them in clearing their debts and avoiding legal action.
"We are giving tenants one last opportunity to comply with the regulations," Mr. Nata emphasized. "Landowners deserve fair compensation for the use of their land, and TLTB will take all necessary measures to ensure that rental obligations are fulfilled."
TLTB urges all tenants with outstanding rental payments to clear their arrears immediately to avoid legal consequences, including the interruption of essential services and eviction.
